Common problems

Why does the air conditioner try to start for a few seconds and then stop?

Every air conditioner has a motor inside the compressor. The compressor provides the cooling capacity to the air conditioner.

If the compressor or its electrical controls are defective, the compressor may try to start, fail and create an electrical overload.

If an overload is not generated, the safety switch cuts the power to the compressor for a short while and then resets itself, to prevent it from burning out.

On resetting, it allows the electricity to flow to the compressor once again.

  • If the compressor then starts, the air conditioner should function normally.
  • If the compressor does not start, then the overload will cut the power to the compressor.
This cycle will continue indefinitely, hence always allow 3 - 5 minutes before restarting the compressor.
  • If the problem persists, unplug the air conditioner and get help from a qualified technician to repair the air conditioner at the SmartCare centre.
