Who we are

The Godrej journey with aerospace began in 1985 with the ambition of Naval P. Godrej to fortify India’s aspiring space projects. Today, our Aerospace division creates high-precision components from unique alloys essential for ISRO's spacecraft missions and has contributed to key Indian space missions, including landmark Mangalyaan and Chandrayaan.

Our strategic foray into aerospace enabled ISRO to strengthen India's space autonomy. Initially producing basic components for ISRO, by 1989, we were entrusted with manufacturing the PSLV's second-stage liquid engine. Entering the Cryogenic engine program in 1993, our perseverance yielded the program's first hardware in 2004.

As a Tier One manufacturer, our expertise expands into crafting precision and advanced aerospace components, assemblies, and systems. This ascent has led us to collaborate and execute projects for global aerospace juggernauts like Honeywell, GE, Rolls-Royce, and Boeing, marking our calibration in manufacturing precise aerospace components.

Our broad capabilities, ranging from precision machining and fabrication to developing liquid propulsion systems, satellite components, and beyond, are strengthened by an extensive infrastructure. This includes advanced CNC machines, welding shops, and comprehensive testing facilities, positioning us as a leader in the aerospace sector.

We are the sole fabricator of liquid engines for the pioneering ventures of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), in association with our consortium partners. Additionally, we provide state-of-the-art thrusters for satellites and complex cryogenic engine assemblies.

We are precision manufacturers of complex hydraulic aggregates, including actuators, valves, and pumps. At our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities we execute critical assembly processes including complex machining, heat treatment, and surface treatment. Our team of engineers have also developed advanced test capabilities including hydraulic, pneumatic, leak, shock, bump, and climatic processes.

Fabrication

Fabrication

We create complex fabricated parts critical for aerospace projects that harness techniques such as laser-cutting, press brake forming, hydraulic press, sheet rolling, heat treatment, welding, brazing, and non-destructive testing to ensure precision delivery. Our experience includes handing of materials like Nickel alloy, Nimonic Super Alloy, Titanium, Stainless Steel and Aluminium. Our Centre of Excellence for sheet metal brackets produces simple to complex rivetted and welded brackets for high volume applications.

Tubing & Ducting

Tubing

We combine engineering and science to build tubes and ducts for aircraft and engines. Our infrastructure includes a state-of-the-art tubing cell comprising of tube bending machines, end-fitting machining, swaging, orbital and manual welding, and non-destructive testing. These procedures are employed by transforming materials like titanium, Inconel, steel, and aluminium into different shapes for critical components. Our endeavour is to meet and exceed the standards of aeronautical engineering.

Our state-of-the-art composite manufacturing facility encompasses 10,000 class clean rooms, precise cold storage, a universal testing machine, and an essential non-destructive test facility. The team expertly handles materials like: Carbon-fibre, Glass & Aramid, Resin – epoxy, Phenolic, Poluamide, Core-Honeycomb (Aluminium & Nomax) and Foams (PU, Rohacell).

A majority of the products manufactured by us have manual or automated Fusion Welding such as TIG & MIG Welding, Resistance Welding and Friction Welding. We have a sound technical team of metallurgists which compliments our welding capabilities and constantly works on enhancing our techniques.

Special Process

Our in-house special process capabilities include surface treatment, heat treatment, non-destructive testing and welding. We have a highly skilled and specialised team for special processes which are NADCAP approved for more than 15 years. In addition, we have multiple approvals from global OEMs. 

Fabrication

High-temperature Brazing

High-temperature brazing is critical for the optimal performance of Aero Engines. These engines operate under extreme conditions that demand precision manufacturing. At our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, we pioneered advanced high-temperature brazing processes for sealing the tip and root openings of the cast turbine rotor blades used in these engines. The development of these processes for maintaining the structural integrity and operational efficiency of Aero Engines under extreme duress represents a significant technological advancement for India. In this way we aim to set new benchmarks in the ‘Make in India’ movement, as well as foster a more self-reliant and globally competitive aerospace industry in India.

Godrej Aerospace

Our aerospace team played an important role in the success of India's Chandrayaan-3 mission, providing crucial components and systems for both the spacecraft and the lander. We contributed to the manufacturing of the L110 engine for the core stage and the CE20 engine thrust chamber for the upper stage on LVM3 (Launch Vehicle Mark III), ISRO’s heaviest launcher. 

Our expertise also played a crucial role during the Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2 missions. For Chandrayaan-1, we contributed the Vikas engine, thrustors, and critical parts for the remote sensing antenna and ground system antenna. For Chandrayaan-2 we contributed the L110 engine and CE20 engine for the launcher GSLV Mk III, thrusters for the Orbiter and Lander, and components for the DSN antenna.
