Doing business, responsibly.

Over our 126-year journey, environmental sustainability has always been at the heart of our business strategy, manufacturing processes, products, and solutions. Our core vision and values have always supported cohesion and interdependence between the environment and business.

Our Initiatives

Water positivity

Our initiative determines our three-pronged water sustainability strategy. To reduce specific freshwater consumption, to achieve zero discharge across locations, and to become water positive across locations.

  • image

    Global Water Scarcity

Water scarcity is a growing global crisis threatening ecosystems, agricultural production, and human survival. Uncontrolled water use depletes resources and affects communities.

  • Goal

Achieve 2x water positivity and reduce specific freshwater consumption by 2032.

    image
  • Progress

179% water positive, achieved water positivity since 2016-17.

    Industrial Wastewater Contamination

The release of untreated industrial wastewater can contaminate water bodies, posing risks to ecosystems and human health.

  • Goal

Ensure zero liquid discharge (ZLD) of industrial effluents.

    image
  • Progress

100% of our manufacturing facilities practise zero liquid discharge.

    Over-extraction of Groundwater

Over-extraction of groundwater and drying up of aquifers is a universal problem in India, and the country is predicted to face high degrees of water stress in the future.

  • Goal

    Achieve 40% specific water consumption.

    image
  • Progress

We have achieved a 60% reduction in specific water consumption.

Zero waste to landfill

Our waste management practices are designed to reduce the environmental impact associated with waste generation and disposal. We focus on reduction of waste generation at the source, segregation for better management and responsible disposal.

  • image

    Solid Waste Mismanagement

Inefficient solid waste management causes soil and water contamination, harmful chemical release, and disease spread, which pose risks to both the environment and public health.

  • Goal

Achieve zero waste to landfill from Pirojshanagar township, Vikhroli.

    image
  • Progress

Zero waste to landfill since inception in 2014, with close to 23,447 MT of waste productively utilised.

    Carbon Emissions from Construction

Buildings and infrastructure contribute 39% of global carbon emissions, mainly from the production, transportation, and installation of materials like concrete.

  • Goal

Recycle concrete debris to reduce embodied carbon emissions.

    image
  • Progress

25,000 MT of concrete debris waste processed with a capacity of recycling up to 300 tonnes of concrete debris waste per day.

  • image

    Hazardous Waste Disposal

Industries produce millions of tonnes of hazardous waste annually. Only a small fraction is treated or recycled, with most ending up in landfills, posing severe environmental and health risks.

  • Goal

Reduce specific hazardous waste by 50%.

    image
  • Progress

52% reduction in hazardous waste generation.

  • image

    Non-hazardous Waste Accumulation

Industries generate vast amounts of non-hazardous waste, much of which ends up in landfills, contributing to pollution and wasting valuable resources.

  • Goal

Send zero non-hazardous waste to landfill.

    image
  • Progress

    99.6% waste diverted from landfill.

Energy efficiency

Minimised use of energy and decarbonisation are of the highest material importance for our businesses, and we have taken progressive steps to meet our energy use related objectives.

  • image

    Excessive Carbon Emissions

High energy consumption increases carbon emissions, contributing to global warming and climate change.

  • Goal

Achieve 2x productivity by reducing specific energy consumption, in line with our EP100 commitments.

    image
  • Progress

2x productivity achieved in 2021, via reduction in specific energy consumed.

  • image

    Enhancing energy efficiency across processes.

  • image

    Inefficient Energy Use

Inefficient energy use in industrial processes leads to excessive consumption and higher emissions, negatively affecting the environment.

  • Goal

    Implement energy-efficient technologies across operations.

    image
  • Progress

1,60,85,901 kWh of energy saved annually through energy-efficient technologies.

    Dependence on Fossil Fuels

With the world’s largest population, India faces immense pressure to meet the energy needs of its people, relying heavily on fossil fuels.

  • Goal

Reduce reliance on fossil fuels by adopting alternative energy sources.

    image
  • Progress

Across industries, we have shifted to 30% renewable energy use.

Carbon neutrality

We have a long-standing goal of making our businesses carbon neutral and energy efficient. We are seizing every opportunity to reduce the carbon footprint of our entire supply chain.

  • image

    Industrial Carbon Emissions

The manufacturing industry is one of the largest contributors to carbon emissions worldwide, leading to global warming.

  • Goal

Achieve 60% reduction in carbon intensity by 2032.

    image
  • Progress

58% reduction of carbon intensity since 2011.
